2. Who is Exempt from FSSAI Registration?
Individuals involved in food business activities from home for registered Cooperative Societies, Mahila Udyog, Self Help Groups, Gruh Udyog, or similar government-registered societies are exempt. Additionally, direct selling entities that take responsibility for their direct sellers and authorize them in writing, milk vendors who sell their entire production to a Cooperative Society, and individuals operating food vending machines, water vending machines, food ATMs, or food carts are also exempt.
3. Can We Start a Business Without an FSSAI License?
No, it is not permissible to operate a food business without an FSSAI license. The FSSAI Act mandates that all food businesses obtain a 14-digit FSSAI License Number to ensure the provision of safe and wholesome food for human consumption. This license number must be printed on all food products.

The fees for obtaining an FSSAI license vary depending on the type of registration or license needed. While the basic FSSAI registration fees are minimal, the fees for state and central licenses can be higher.
5. Which Products Require an FSSAI License?
Businesses dealing with the following products must secure an FSSAI License or Registration:
• Dairy products and analogs
• Fats, oils, and fat emulsions
• Edible ice, including sherbets and sorbets
• Fruits and vegetables, including mushrooms, roots, tubers, fresh pulses, legumes, aloe vera, seaweed, nuts, and seeds
• Confectionery
• Fish and fish products, including crustaceans and mollusks
• Bakery products and sweeteners, including honey
• Cereals and cereal products, excluding certain bakery wares
• Meat and meat products, eggs, and egg products
• Salts, spices, soups, sauces, salads, and protein products
• Foodstuffs intended for specific nutritional uses, such as infant formula and medical purpose formulas for infants
• Beverages (excluding dairy products)
• Food additives permitted under the FSS Regulations
• Nutrients and their preparations
• Micronutrients as specified under FSSR
• Standardized food products not covered under other categories

7. Who can become a partner in a Partnership firm?
Any Indian citizen residing in India can become a partner in a Partnership firm. In addition, non-resident Indians (NRIs) or persons of Indian origin (PIOs) can also invest in a Partnership firm, but only with prior government approval. Legal entities like companies and registered firms can also become partners if their objectives allow it.
8. Is GST Applicable for FSSAI Services?
As of July 27, 2022, FSSAI announced that an 18% GST will be applicable on services provided by FSSAI, including Central license issuance, Food Safety Mitra fees, Product Approval fees, and Import Clearance fees.

FSSAI registration or license is valid for either one year or five years, depending on the fees paid.
